Soirée
Once a large international organization with annual government funding, we were forced to pause during the pandemic. But like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, we are back! Since 2024, however, a small but dedicated group of volunteers has kept the spirit alive in Amsterdam through the Shimmy Shake Soirée.
The Soirée is a cost-covering, spectacular event featuring 14 dance acts, followed by a lively dance party for all. It’s a chance to reconnect, inspire, and celebrate the joy of dance together!
What will you see?
Groups, duets, and solo performances set to a rich mix of music—from rock ’n roll and lyrical pieces to Arabic music. Each dance expresses emotion and sensuality through beautifully crafted choreography.
You’ll marvel at the range of movement these dancers have developed within the genre, including Tribal Fusion, FatChanceBellyDance® style, elegant Raqs Sharki (bellydance), and creative fusions with Western styles such as modern, punk, hip hop, and folk.
With imaginative costumes and carefully chosen music, the result is exceptional, artistic, and truly top-class.
Polanen Theatre
The soirée wil take place in the beautiful, cozy, Polanentheater and bar/cafe, situated in the delightful Spaandammer neighbourhood, between the Westerpark and the IJ lake. Drinks and food will be available, ensuring a warm and joyous time for all.
