SHIMMY SHAKE FESTIVAL 2018 WAS A BLAST!!

Published on 5 December 2018 at 10:37

We are still enjoying the warmth of the glow created by so many great experiences during the 3 days of the 5th Shimmy Shake festival. Dancing together generated so much joy and happiness! The fifth FESTIVAL was the best one so far.

Once again the atmosphere was very friendly, warm and encouraging. People from all communities and of all ages came together to celebrate life and femininity. Fabulous women from Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Germany, Russia, Belgium, UK and more were performing at the top level and teaching dance class for all levels. Everyone joined up in the cosy Oriental Lounge setting in the foyer, where they could watch the Open Stage performances, do a little shopping, eat great food, have drinks and chat. To meet new faces and to be reunited with dance friends long not seen. Each day a merry happening!

International guests and local stars

Olga Meos and Natasha Korotkina were perhaps not so well-known in Europe (certainly in Asia) before this event but definitely are now. Such astonishing performances! The power and strength of these women whilst communicating an alluring sensuality was a joy to behold.

We were also very proud to present Alexis Southall, Eliana Hofmann, Tjarda and Nargis as well as the Dutch Tribal Collective. And even more proud of our Next Level students and the Dutch and German co-production dancers for their very professional performances. The two days of Open Stage in the foyer introduced us to lots of new talents and showed new work from favourite dancers to the enjoyment of all in the foyer.

Workshops at all levels a great succes

Our range of workshops for professionals through to beginners level were very well attended. Participants loved the level of expertise and the amount of good fun they had. Once again our Step Up – Dance Sampling was a hit with 45 minute workshops in Flamenco, Polynesian Dance and Beginners Tribal. We also loved the reactions and pleasure the public got from the free workshops in the foyer. See here many laughs and upside down bodies as they took part for free in AcroYoga by Mar Gonzalez. Or the beautiful costumes of Deosil Scylla dancing Irish Folk and the happy crowd learning basic Bellydance. Saturday we had a colourful Fashion Show before the Gala Show which was admired by all, resulting in big sales of these creations for the market stand holders.

Don’t worry if you missed it this year – we are back again in 2019 on 8, 9 & 10 November!
