Hello! Happy days – here, at long last, is a message from Shimmy Shake! Since our last message a rest and recuperation period was needed for our already retired Gail Pilgrim. However, it seems a lot of you are missing us, and we miss you too! So, we will start up again. Fresh, in a new form AND with a new board.
News from Shimmy Shake - summer 2023
Dear Shimmy Shake fans! Here is a long-awaited update on our activities. Sad to say, over a period of one and a half years andafter putting very much energy into getting our very special project I AM WOMAN off the ground, we have had to give up. Such a pity! Such a missed opportunity for theaters, the cultural world, and the general public!
New project by Shimmy Shake for 2023
We are happy to announce that Shimmy Shake is preparing something brand new. As you may know, Gail, the producer of Shimmy Shake has taken a step backwards from ‘active service’ and the festival will not take place anymore. Fortunately Gail has trouble sitting still and thus has started working on a new project...
A new direction for Shimmy Shake
After a break, Shimmy Shake is reinventing itself. As you know, the festival is not taking place again. But Shimmy Shake is still alive! Gail has decided it's time for something new. We will not tell you just yet but something new is cooking and we're taking things in a slightly different direction. Still tribal fusion of course.
Shimmy Shake stops end 2020
Hereby we are letting you know that the Shimmy Shake Organisation as it has been until now: Talent Search, Talent Carnival, Hafla, Flash Mob, Dancers Dealings, Next Level and our Festival, will officially stop at the end of this year. The Golden Girls project will continue – we have gifted it to Renate Bakker, along with all the costumes and props. Currently discussions are taking place about the possibility to pass along some elements of Shimmy Shake to others.
Shimmy Shake Festival 2020 cancelled
In recent weeks it looked as if we could organize a corona-proof Shimmy Shake Festival - despite all the measures. It was therefore a huge disappointment to hear that all theaters have to close their doors for two weeks.

Corona rules the roost these days… But we’re glad to announce: Shimmy Shake Festival will go on!We’ll let you know the final program this Friday October 2nd. We can already assure you that Holland’s finest Fusion Belly Dancers will be present!
April Rose Postponed until 2021
Big change to report: with all the travel difficulties for people from the USA, April Rose has decided to postpone her world tour until next year. You can look forward to the amazing April Rose giving her 12-hour Bellydance Cohesion in Shimmy Shake Festival 2021. OPPORTUNITY: we are now programming a 3-hour intensive on the Friday with none other than – TJARDA VAN STRATEN. Yes, she is back! Followed by dinner with the workshop participants and visiting dancers, and our annual meeting.
New Location for the Shimmy Shake Festival
Unfortunately the Maas Theater told us we cannot do the festival live there, due to Corona restrictions. But we have found a new theater, TR Witte de With, who will welcome us. Stay tuned for more information about this new location and how it will work within the regulations for safety.

Nieuwe buikdans fusion flashmob aankondiging voor 27 oktober!
Op 27 oktober 2019 organiseert Adrijana Beumer van Buikdansschool Bellyssima, in samenwerking met Shimmy Shake, een Flashmob bij WTC Beurs Rotterdam. Bovenop de Koopgoot! Wij hopen dat jij met ons mee komt dansen! Dit is een energieke buikdans en dancehall fusion: de ‘Big Truck Dance Challenge’.
Ticket sale for Shimmy Shake Festival 2019 is OPEN!
We are very proud to announce to all of you that the ticket sale for the International Shimmy Shake Festival 2019 is open! We worked our asses off to create an awesome festival program for all of you and could not wait any longer to share this with you. For this edition, we introduce some new features in the ticket sale including package deals and Early-Bird tickets! Shimmy Shake Festival 2019 will take place between November 8th and 10th in Maaspodium, Rotterdam.

Fusion Bellydance in the spotlight during Parkpop this weekend!
Because of Shimmy Shake coaching in 2012, Vleer and Annelies found themselves on the same stage. They clicked right away, and decided to create a performance together with the name ‘She Beckons’. 7 years later, they still dance together!
How will you spend your afternoon this Sunday?
This Sunday is the third edition of the Shimmy Shake Talent Carnival! An event which grew around the annual Shimmy Shake Talent Show, the grand finale of our Talent Search. The Talent Show, which will be performed at 12:300h and 15:00h, is still an important part of the afternoon, but there is much more to keep you busy this Sunday at Theater ‘t Kapelletje in Rotterdam.In between the two shows in the theatre, you can enjoy a free Open Podium Show in the studio of the venue. A lot of dancers applied to dance on this stage so we will have a full program there. Just walk in and enjoy the amazing fusion bellydance performances. Special guest performances by The Dutch Tribal Collective, Shalini Shines (Dominican Bachata) and NavRang (Rajasthani Folk Dance).
