Tickets sale for the Shimmy Shake Festival will start this Monday, July 8th! Headliners this edition include Piny Orchidaceae, Kira Habibi Lal & Patricia Zarnovican. For this 6th edition, we will introduce some exciting changes in the ticket sales!
Because of Shimmy Shake coaching in 2012, Vleer and Annelies found themselves on the same stage. They clicked right away, and decided to create a performance together with the name ‘She Beckons’. 7 years later, they still dance together!
This Sunday is the third edition of the Shimmy Shake Talent Carnival! An event which grew around the annual Shimmy Shake Talent Show, the grand finale of our Talent Search. The Talent Show, which will be performed at 12:300h and 15:00h, is still an important part of the afternoon, but there is much more to keep you busy this Sunday at Theater ‘t Kapelletje in Rotterdam.In between the two shows in the theatre, you can enjoy a free Open Podium Show in the studio of the venue. A lot of dancers applied to dance on this stage so we will have a full program there. Just walk in and enjoy the amazing fusion bellydance performances. Special guest performances by The Dutch Tribal Collective, Shalini Shines (Dominican Bachata) and NavRang (Rajasthani Folk Dance).
Just a few more weeks and we will celebrate the Shimmy Shake Talent Carnival on June 9th! The Talent Carnival is an afternoon full of fun, meeting old and making new friends. An amazing afternoon full of dance, but we can use some help making sure everything will be o.k.
In the past months, we went on a hunt for fusion (belly) dance talents with the Shimmy Shake Talent Search. And yes, we have found them! In Zutphen, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, and Groningen we got to watch beautiful performances by dancers of different experience levels. 12 were selected by our expert panel and will receive coaching from some of the best coaches in the industry. Time went so fast! On three equally sunny afternoons in Zutphen, Rotterdam, and Eindhoven, we got to witness a wide variety of fusion (belly)dance acts, a lot of styles and levels of experience! All these dancers had one thing in common: all of them were almost bursting with talent!
In February we came together on a beautiful, sunny, Sunday afternoon for the first talent search of 2019. That’s one down, but we still have three more of these amazing afternoons full of dance to go! You can still sign-up for the very last spots in Rotterdam, or join the fun in Eindhoven or Groningen.
On a very sunny Sunday afternoon we came together in Sheila’s Buikdanscentrum in the beautiful city Zutphen for the first Shimmy Shake Talent Search of 2019! An hour before the show, some people were joking that it was a waste of this beautiful day to be inside dancing but when the show started, we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but inside the dance studio. Audience and dancers alike were surprised by the broad variety of the dancers this afternoon. From traditional Indian Dance to fusion burlesque and even a kind of Hip-Hop dance battle.

The year has started and so has the Talent Search where we look for new Fusion Belly dancers!! You sign up, present your work and receive feedback (if you want it) from our panel of experts or come and watch, or you can simply just dance even if you don’t want coaching or feedback. After the four Talent Search Dance Days the chosen 12 dance acts will be coached and perform their improved work at the Talent Carnival in June, a gorgeous day that is not to be missed.
The end of the year is the time to look back and to look forward, to reflect and to make new resolutions. How was your 2018? For Shimmy Shake it was a good one. As well as 3 other cities we did a Talent Search in Groningen for the first time! Our international project with Hannover was a big success. The sun shone on the Talent Carnival and we started up a Kids project. The Golden Girls got amazing costumes! And we did the best festival so far, our 5 years edition. HAPPY!
We are still enjoying the warmth of the glow created by so many great experiences during the 3 days of the 5th Shimmy Shake festival. Dancing together generated so much joy and happiness! The fifth FESTIVAL was the best one so far.

Hello Shimmy Shakers, new and old friends, and all interested persons,
Hello! Happy days – here, at long last, is a message from Shimmy Shake! Since our last message a rest and recuperation period was needed for our already retired Gail Pilgrim. However, it seems a lot of you are missing us, and we miss you too! So, we will start up again. Fresh, in a new form AND with a new board.
Dear Shimmy Shake fans! Here is a long-awaited update on our activities. Sad to say, over a period of one and a half years andafter putting very much energy into getting our very special project I AM WOMAN off the ground, we have had to give up. Such a pity! Such a missed opportunity for theaters, the cultural world, and the general public!
We are happy to announce that Shimmy Shake is preparing something brand new. As you may know, Gail, the producer of Shimmy Shake has taken a step backwards from ‘active service’ and the festival will not take place anymore. Fortunately Gail has trouble sitting still and thus has started working on a new project...
After a break, Shimmy Shake is reinventing itself. As you know, the festival is not taking place again. But Shimmy Shake is still alive! Gail has decided it's time for something new. We will not tell you just yet but something new is cooking and we're taking things in a slightly different direction. Still tribal fusion of course.
Hereby we are letting you know that the Shimmy Shake Organisation as it has been until now: Talent Search, Talent Carnival, Hafla, Flash Mob, Dancers Dealings, Next Level and our Festival, will officially stop at the end of this year. The Golden Girls project will continue – we have gifted it to Renate Bakker, along with all the costumes and props. Currently discussions are taking place about the possibility to pass along some elements of Shimmy Shake to others.
In recent weeks it looked as if we could organize a corona-proof Shimmy Shake Festival - despite all the measures. It was therefore a huge disappointment to hear that all theaters have to close their doors for two weeks.
