Since you are reading this, you have probably heard about Shimmy Shake. It is our goal to promote and evolve Tribal Fusion Bellydance in the Netherlands! We bring dancers, teachers and enthousiast together in our community, help develop talented dancers in the Talent Search and Next Level and put this amazing dance genre in the spotlight during the Shimmy Shake Festival. Just over a month to go until the Shimmy Shake Festival. Time to get to know this year’s Festival Headliners. We kept up with rising talents all over the globe, listened to your wishes and watched shows that made our jaws drop. All of this, to offer you the best of the best, so let’s get to know these ladies!

We are very proud to announce to all of you that the ticket sale for the International Shimmy Shake Festival 2019 is open! We worked our asses off to create an awesome festival program for all of you and could not wait any longer to share this with you. For this edition, we introduce some new features in the ticket sale including package deals and Early-Bird tickets! Shimmy Shake Festival 2019 will take place between November 8th and 10th in Maaspodium, Rotterdam.
Tickets sale for the Shimmy Shake Festival will start this Monday, July 8th! Headliners this edition include Piny Orchidaceae, Kira Habibi Lal & Patricia Zarnovican. For this 6th edition, we will introduce some exciting changes in the ticket sales!
Because of Shimmy Shake coaching in 2012, Vleer and Annelies found themselves on the same stage. They clicked right away, and decided to create a performance together with the name ‘She Beckons’. 7 years later, they still dance together!
This Sunday is the third edition of the Shimmy Shake Talent Carnival! An event which grew around the annual Shimmy Shake Talent Show, the grand finale of our Talent Search. The Talent Show, which will be performed at 12:300h and 15:00h, is still an important part of the afternoon, but there is much more to keep you busy this Sunday at Theater ‘t Kapelletje in Rotterdam.In between the two shows in the theatre, you can enjoy a free Open Podium Show in the studio of the venue. A lot of dancers applied to dance on this stage so we will have a full program there. Just walk in and enjoy the amazing fusion bellydance performances. Special guest performances by The Dutch Tribal Collective, Shalini Shines (Dominican Bachata) and NavRang (Rajasthani Folk Dance).
Just a few more weeks and we will celebrate the Shimmy Shake Talent Carnival on June 9th! The Talent Carnival is an afternoon full of fun, meeting old and making new friends. An amazing afternoon full of dance, but we can use some help making sure everything will be o.k.
In the past months, we went on a hunt for fusion (belly) dance talents with the Shimmy Shake Talent Search. And yes, we have found them! In Zutphen, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, and Groningen we got to watch beautiful performances by dancers of different experience levels. 12 were selected by our expert panel and will receive coaching from some of the best coaches in the industry. Let’s meet the talents, who will be showing their progress during the Talent Carnival on June 9th in Rotterdam
Time went so fast! On three equally sunny afternoons in Zutphen, Rotterdam, and Eindhoven, we got to witness a wide variety of fusion (belly)dance acts, a lot of styles and levels of experience! All these dancers had one thing in common: all of them were almost bursting with talent!
In February we came together on a beautiful, sunny, Sunday afternoon for the first talent search of 2019. That’s one down, but we still have three more of these amazing afternoons full of dance to go! You can still sign-up for the very last spots in Rotterdam, or join the fun in Eindhoven or Groningen.
We are happy to announce that Shimmy Shake is preparing something brand new. As you may know, Gail, the producer of Shimmy Shake has taken a step backwards from ‘active service’ and the festival will not take place anymore. Fortunately Gail has trouble sitting still and thus has started working on a new project...
After a break, Shimmy Shake is reinventing itself. As you know, the festival is not taking place again. But Shimmy Shake is still alive! Gail has decided it's time for something new. We will not tell you just yet but something new is cooking and we're taking things in a slightly different direction. Still tribal fusion of course.
Hereby we are letting you know that the Shimmy Shake Organisation as it has been until now: Talent Search, Talent Carnival, Hafla, Flash Mob, Dancers Dealings, Next Level and our Festival, will officially stop at the end of this year. The Golden Girls project will continue – we have gifted it to Renate Bakker, along with all the costumes and props. Currently discussions are taking place about the possibility to pass along some elements of Shimmy Shake to others.
In recent weeks it looked as if we could organize a corona-proof Shimmy Shake Festival - despite all the measures. It was therefore a huge disappointment to hear that all theaters have to close their doors for two weeks.

Corona rules the roost these days… But we’re glad to announce: Shimmy Shake Festival will go on!We’ll let you know the final program this Friday October 2nd. We can already assure you that Holland’s finest Fusion Belly Dancers will be present!
Big change to report: with all the travel difficulties for people from the USA, April Rose has decided to postpone her world tour until next year. You can look forward to the amazing April Rose giving her 12-hour Bellydance Cohesion in Shimmy Shake Festival 2021. OPPORTUNITY: we are now programming a 3-hour intensive on the Friday with none other than – TJARDA VAN STRATEN. Yes, she is back! Followed by dinner with the workshop participants and visiting dancers, and our annual meeting.
Unfortunately the Maas Theater told us we cannot do the festival live there, due to Corona restrictions. But we have found a new theater, TR Witte de With, who will welcome us. Stay tuned for more information about this new location and how it will work within the regulations for safety.

Just a few more hours (ahhh!) until the Talent Carnival on Sunday, June 14th. The very first online edition. Although this digital form comes from necessity, we are now looking forward to it! We never thought possible, but we bring the complete Talent Carnival to your home.
